NixOS-experienced reinforcement in our application operation team
We are delighted that Maximilian Bosch, an experienced NixOS committer, is joining our AppOps crew and enriching our entire team.
Born in Munich, he is about to complete his degree in computer science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and has been working part-time in the IT and tech industry for over 9 years. Maximilian's beginnings can be described as part-time, as he received and accepted his first job offer from this company at the age of 14 after completing a school internship.
His first contact with the infrastructure operating system NixOS also came about as part of his work. NixOS is a modern Linux distribution that is ideal for cloud and infrastructure environments and has been in active use at the Flying Circus since 2015. The intelligent and innovative focus on increasing the stability, declarative reproducibility, efficiency and maintainability of a platform with this operating system has fascinated Maximilian from the very beginning until today. So much so that he is also very active in the NixOS community in his private life and has built up the reputation of the committer to this day through his continuous work on the OS and the packages provided.
After more than 9 years at a well-known software development company in Munich, Maximilian realised that he wanted to further professionalise his NixOS skills and decided to make a career change with a greater focus on one of his private interests - the NixOS operating system. ‘The first time I heard about the Flying Circus was through an interesting talk given by a Flying Circus employee at NixCon 2018,’ says Maximilian. ‘As I was looking around the NixOS environment in particular, I quickly came across the Flying Circus via various cloud providers and hosters and realised that the Flying Circus not only actively uses NixOS and the open source concept, but also lives it,’ says Maximilian.
The different approach of the Flying Circus to understanding and implementing Application Operation Services completely won Maximilian over. ‘I am delighted to be able to use my knowledge in the context of scaling a large platform and to develop new and exciting areas of responsibility,’ says Maximilian. We are delighted to welcome him to the ranks of our crew as another expert with NixOS knowledge.
